Let me try one more... this view looks nothing like this today... the buildings are gone, the centercab is gone... but for years (maybe decades) you could see this from Amtrak trains.

Charles,

I'll take a wild guess and say either Youngstown or Akron.

J,

It's much further east.

Looks like it's along the NEC. You can see the catenary. That's about as close as I can get.

100% Correct... it is along the NEC (well, was along it... gone now).

Anyone get any closer?

You're in the right state... even the right county.

It is the General Electric South Philadelphia Switchgear Plant along the Northeast Corridor. The engine is a GE 45 tonner.

The plant was completely demolished for a SEPTA transit yard.

General Electric Transformer Plant at 68th and Elmwood just south of Brill tower.

Was taken out of service about 1982. The entire place was obliterated by GE as a superfund cleanup, and was used for storage of office trailers.

The industry switch for the plant off of #1 track and the two further south at Crystal X and Curtis were all within Brill's extended interlocking. There were pot signals on track 1 controlling entry. they were used as the trick question in a rules exam for years. Tripped up a lot of guys.

Just want to make sure everyone knows, this incredibly detailed answer was posted at the same time as my giving it away - so MW4man did not know what I had written...

MW4Man is our official WINNER.

I just have to pick this knit: that plant was in West Philly, not South Philly. Gerry
