Nostalgia & History > MoPac depot in Herington, KS (Circa 1908)Date: 03/01/08 19:07 MoPac depot in Herington, KS (Circa 1908) Author: JoCoLB This is a copy of a picture postcard from Herington, KS, that was postmarked in 1908.
The scene shows the Missouri Pacific Railroad passenger/freight depot in Herington on the south side of the main line that ran between Kansas City, Mo., and Pueblo, Colo. Note the large water storage tank for steam locomotives. Beyond the water tower was a small stockyards area (which would have been right in the middle of town). My understanding is that the stockyards were moved about 1 mile east of town in later years (exact date unknown). I also don't any have information in regards to when the water tower disappeared. I think this depot building was replaced later also, but I don't have any date. If anybody has any other Missouri Pacific depot pictures from Herington, I would appreciate seeing a copy. tht |
