Last Stand for Santa Fe's B23s
Author: PRose

The Santa Fe B23-7s were used in both branch line and main line service during their careers. Renumbered after the merger, they continued to earn their keep.
In their final days, in the midwest at least, they were relegated to transfer service in the KC area.
Approaching the KCS Kenoche yard, the 4255 leads a transfer from Argentine.
October 19, 2006.

Thanks for looking.

I took a photo of B23-7 #4228 at Commerce, CA on February 11, 2007. This must have been just a few months, if not weeks before it was retired.

About three years ago I was able to put together a solid set for the Watson to El Segundo BNSF yard job in CA. Very unusual for that many to be around the Harbor area. There was a pause in the action in Lawndale on the return trip from El Segundo and I was able to grab a couple of shots. These units were not liked by crews but will none the less be missed by at least me. Thanks for sharing.

I always liked the b23's, but the early 6300's..the u23's....they were the worst! You'd get filthy looking at them let alone working on one. The B's road like bricks, but they always pulled-this from an EMD fan.
