Nostalgia & History > Depot FridayDate: 05/01/09 18:32 Depot Friday Author: DublinDistrict I don't know if this is the original depot relocated or if it's a replica, but here's the Frisco depot in Frisco, TX.
Santa Fe's Kress, TX depot now resides in Brownwood as part of a museum. It was originally moved to a retiree's place just outside of town, along with a couple of cars. The depot and at least one of the cars are included in the museum. Glad I got it when I did, because now it has a ramp built against it. ATSF Dave, have you checked out the museum? Any idea what they have? And the QA&P depot in Paducah, TX. Date: 05/01/09 20:21 Re: Depot Friday Author: ATSFDave Yes,I have.I been there numerous times. The retiree you are referring too was Martin Lehnis.
A couple of years or so before he died.he donated all his collection to the city Of Brownwood, after hearing they were talking about opening up A museum.Unfortunately,He or his wife didn't lived long enough to see the museum become A reality. It is named after them,The Martin and Francis railroad museum.Martin Lehnis was A long time Santa Fe employee. The ramp you see is from where it was move to that location,it is all cleaned up and looks good.it probably hasn't been there long when that photo was taken. The Kress depot in you picture just got a new coat of paint, and looks great.I don't have any pictures yet,as soon as I do I will post them.Along with the Kress depot, they also have A Santa Fe caboose and business car from his collection. They also have A live steam locomotive that Mr lehnis buit,(but it is off somewhere being redone.) The Kress depot will house the clubs layout. The collection also includes A vast collection of RR related stuff, most from the Lehnis collection as well as stuff that people have donated. Mr lehnis also had fairly large collection of model RR stuff too. They have A operating O and ho model railroads on display,as well as other Model RR equipment on static display. I invite anybody in this area to check it out.Mary Irving that ran the museum In Temple is person in charge of this one now. Thanks, David Martin Date: 05/01/09 20:39 Re: Depot Friday Author: tomstp Martin had two live steam engines. One, a 1 1/2" scale 4-6-0 which I have run, and a larger 4-4-0 that was approx 2 1/2" park locomotive, track gauge 15". It would take hours to describe all his collection.
