From "First to Last" - nothing says "Class"......
Author: ATSF100WEST

......like a Warbonnet! Speaking of "first to last", here is "Class Engine" SDFP45 90, on the 718 Train, between Klinefelter and Ibis, and the final unit of the fleet, the 98, leading the 957 Train, between Ludlow and Ash Hill. Both trains were photographed in 1990, on Santa Fe's busy Needles Sub, in the rugged and beautiful Mojave Desert.

Thanks for looking, and have a great "Warbonnet Wednesday"!

You know how I feel about the Needles Bob, the one at Ibis is my favorite in these. Always waned to go back on the North track between Ibis and Arrowhead Jct to see what it looked like.

Excellent images, Bob, with an appropriate background. Couldn't agree with you more, the Santa Fe was in a class by itself.

Great images, Bob. I will never tire of seeing the F and FP45s in any paint scheme. Thanks for sharing.

Good stuff! As mentioned, 98 was the only FP45 that got a plow pilot (eventually), and 90 was the only one of the 90-class that had the horn mounted on the cab (for a few years, anyway). The 90 is now at the Oklahoma Railway Museum in Oklahoma City, and 98 is at the Orange Empire Ry. Museum in Perris, CA.

Still haven't figured out why the locomotive folio says 5990 (aka 90) had a 4000 gallon fuel tank while all her sisters had 5000 gallon tanks. The tanks look the same, and the baffle that used to divide the underbelly tank into water and fuel during the passenger era alotted 2250 gallons to fuel, so it's not just a matter of the baffle not being removed on this one unit.
