Are you sure this isn't 1986?

No it was 1976 as I have the date on the slide to verify it.

The Sunset Ltd didn't go Superliner until 1981 or 82 if memory serves me correct.

About March 1981.

It's not 1976.

Ex Santa Fe Hi-Level Cars were being used on the Sunset back in 1976.

That detour was in 1985 or 86. Train 2 was turned back at Indio after several hours delay and detoured over Santa Fe to Phoenix.
While attempting to turn the power at Indio on the wye, the lead pooch derailed, and the SP found 7326 to loan to Amtrak. The train showed up at Barstow about 10am, and I was drafted to ride the train over the detour as I was the unfortunate trainmaster on duty. I protested loudly, but then rode the train all the way to Phoenix, and then visited relatives in Phoenix.
