About ten years ago, a rockslide came down from the cliffs visible high on the mountain in the background. The slide covered the tracks along Summit Lake at the westernmost of the three tunnels along the lake. An eastbound freight was approaching the signal visible in the photo when it went from green to red. The train reduced speed so as to be able to stop, and was able to stop before the buried tunnel portal. On the parallel Trans-Canada highway, the driver in an eastbound semi must have witnessed the slide come down, because the driver left an impressive set of skid marks on the road. The slide didn't reach the highway, and the truck continued on its way. Based on the four foot rise in the level of Summit Lake, it was estimated a half million tons of rock came down off the mountain. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/01/11 11:43 by eminence_grise.
