CSX in KY, TN and VA on 4-24-93

Hard to believe it's been nearly 19 years since taking these photographs on a trip to Kentucky. I don't have much info of where these photos were taken so if anyone knows more I'd sure like to hear it. From what I recall there was a series of switchbacks in Virginia and some of these photos are taken on those switchbacks.

First of all I was heading south out of Corbin, KY on the overcast morning of 4-24-93 and planned on chasing the first train south. Naturally it had a crappy looking stealth C40-8 leading. Still it was something moving so the chase was on.

1) North of Williamsburg, KY the sun finally came out when I photographed this northbound autorack train behind CSX 5534/7770.
2) CSX 7523 leading southbound coal loads south of Williamsburg, KY.
3) CSX coming out of a tunnel at Morley, TN with a MP 207 marker nearby.

4) CSX 7523/7689 at Habersham, TN 4-24-93.
5) Shoving on the rear of the coal loads are CSX 8023/8638.
6) CSX 7523 at Kilsyth, TN

Don't know much about this helper operation. Anyone have more info about it? Are helpers still used here today?

7) Probably my favorite photo of the day, CSX 7523 at La Fallette, TN.
8) From here it looks like I left the 7523 behind and headed over to the switchbacks. Here is a loaded coal train led by 7759/7800/7861 exiting a tunnel at Smiley, VA 4-24-93.
Helpers on the rear were 2643/6147/2159.
9) CSX helpers on the coal loads at Smiley.

Again, information on these helper operations would be appreciated.
