Nostalgia & History > A double Where is it ???

Clue this happened in 1984... I scanned the photos and do not have the ability to make the pics larger...lead unit was the SP 8293...

Here is a trimmed and expanded version of those two photos.
That does look like a body at the bottom of the second image, but it is hard to tekk if it was the occupant or perhaps someone looking for something.

thanks for the blow up... i think the man at the bottom of the hill was looking for keepsake from the wreck.. No one has guessed the location yet...

This collision occurred in the spring of 1984. I was westbound on this train.. it was an early or late LABRF on a Saturday morning... probably 2/375. The person that took these photos was a friend of mine and also a RFE at the time.. his initials are PDT.. he was getting a haircut adjacent to the tracks and heard the train go into emergency braking.. he immediately left the barber chair and headed towards the headend of the train snapping photos along the way. The young man that was the driver of this pick up truck had borrowed it from his Father without permission. He did not want to pay the $2 parking fee to park in the lot and decided to park on the other side of the tracks... wrong idea ! The young man called for a towtruck to get him off of the tracks. meanwhile as the train went through Newhall ,by the tow company which had already dispatched a truck, told the driver do not hook up there is a train coming !!! Meanwhile as I approached the truck (which was on a blind curve) the driver was standing in the middle of the track waving excitedly ! I placed the train into emergency and it didn't do much as you can see. There wasn't any damage to the 8293... the truck was totaled as you can see.. the driver kept saying to me "My Dad is going to kill me ! " I told him you are lucky I didn't kill you ! Lesson learned stay off the tracks !!

Close actually just west of the west switch at Saugus... at the Saugus Speedway,, at the time of the collision there was a swap meet going on at the speedway.

I knew it was behind the Saugus Raceway / Swap Meet. I could tell from the fence and ruts. Just a few feet shy of the spot where the last train robbery took place.
