Kansas City Union in 1967

Here's 9 shots taken at KC Union on June 18, 1967.
We took the variety for granted - just another normal
day. Units and RR's indentifiable in the photos.

Great stuff! Where would of the Santa Fe E Units be going. Had never seen that many together!

I love seeing pictures from my hometown, especially when I was a kid, like these. Thanks for posting, great stuff.

Look at all that mail!!! What a busy place that was so late in the pre-Amtrak game. Great to see it's still a great building and a busy place to watch trains.

Thanks for sharing.

Back when mail was sorted in transit . What a novel idea . No wonder they call it snail mail these days . Love the pics !!

Looks to me like most of those baggage carts are Railway Express, not mail. My dad pushed and pulled those around for years in upstate NY.

Rode through KC twice a year in the 1960s. It was a two hour, train-packed, eye-popping experience.

Cool photos.

Awesome photos. Very rare to see three E units together on the Santa Fe.

My brother and I spent countless hours on the Grand Street bridge on the east end and the Broadway bridge on the west end in the 1960's. We watched the action below of arriving and departing passenger trains, equipment moves by the Kansas City Terminal Railway, loco power moves and passing freights to the north. I was young and did not have a camera. I am grateful photographers like you, Art Riordan and others recorded these images!

Your excellent photos bring back many happy memories of those days and nights! Thank you.

Hubert

Sure has change over the years. In the last photo, you can see the freight house in the upper left, I think that's the building Jack's Stack BBQ is in now. And now the walk bridge to the station is just west of Jack's parking lot. In early '79 I was firing on #3 & 4 interdivisional, from KC-Newton for a few trips, but don't remember much about what it looked like. But then, I never saw it in the daytime either!

Three Eunits together on the Santa Fe? Very day on #11 and #12! Three Sfe trains shown above are #19(Chigaco-LA), #11(KanCy-Dallas) and #211(KanCy-Tulsa).

Really great images. Visited the station in 2008. Really neat place to visit. Made me want to review the images of the visit. I found one from inside the station is an aerial image...

Ditto that!! I studied these images for a long time -- wonderful series. The express business at this late date -- wow! More please, sir, if you will!
