SSW 7644 East heading up Beaumont
Author: SP8595

1)Beginning the assault up Beaumont Hill at Redlands in Southern California, SSW/Cotton Belt GP40-2 7644 leads a quartet of four-axle motors including a pair of B30-7's and another GP40-2.
2)Mid-train helpers on the 7644 East was this interesting set of 4 SD45's and a SD40T-2 "snoot". SD45R 7549, SD40T-2 8377 in SPSF paint, NHL SD45 (ex-BN) 6558, SD45R 7457 in SPSF paint and SD45 9108 provided a little variety on this pleasant day in February of 1988.

That mid-train helper set is one heck of a lashup!

You were well rewarded for your efforts that day.

BTW, I notice trains with midtrain helpers rather than sweeps at the tail have come back into fashion as of late.

I'll have a Kodachrome Sandwich, and oh by the way, throw in a slice of Cascade Green while you're at it!

I'm really liking that SP GP-40-2 in the first photo. Great front end look with the lights and SP paint. Nice!

Cool stuff, as I remember it too.
The 9108 is living out her last days in some serious service. Gotta love the SP.
