GP30's Pinch Hitting on Passenger Trains
Author: RDG630

In the early days of Conrail several GP30's found themselves in passenger service.
First two photos at Lansdale, Pa pulling EMU's when the power went off on the former Reading side of SEPTA
Third photo was SEPTA's train #7 from Philadelphia to Reading with a former RDG GP30 subing for an ailing FP7 at Royersford, Pa

If that was summer I feel sorry for the riders: sealed windows and no AC.

The 2183's horn must have sounded interesting with an S-2M on one side and an A-200-156 "blat" horn replacing the S-25 on the other.

No problem with air conditioning, notice the pantographs are up. There was enough juice in the wires for that but not enough to power the trains.

Union Pacific had GP-30s with steam boilers. Some should post a pic.

Even better: Those were GP-30B's with boilers!
