Did someone say Kodachrome?
Author: choochoocharlie

Three shots from the "Kodachrome" section of my first digital program for the SPH&TS convention at Bakersfield in 2008. Always wanted to do one and finally decided to do it. The first two photos were taken on October 22nd, 1986. The first shot shows SP rebuilt SD45 #7430 with unrebuilt SD45 #9098 leading a Westbound train approaching Eugene from the run down the Willamette Valley from Portland. Just think, this is what trains might have looked like if the SP/SF merger would have been approved. The second photo shows the 9098 with the 7430 (out of the picture) as they have been cut off of the train after arriving in the yard and are heading to the service track close to Roosevelt Blvd. The third shot taken on June 11, 1986 of SP rebuilt SD45T-2 heading into Eugene with an Eastbound train. They had to wait here at Hilyard and East 8th Ave. for permission to enter the yard. The number 9501 didn't last long as it was changed to 6768 not long after this photo was taken. (Pretty sure of its new number without looking it up....please correct me if I am wrong)

In case anyone wants to know, these photos were taken on 35mm Kodachrome film.

What are you talking about, this paint scheme is really cool.I didnt like it when it first came out but it grew on me. Well at least when it is clean its sharp. When it gets dirty it just is not as attractive, just like the BNSF H3 scheme, looks really sharp when clean though.

I'm glad the merger did not happen..worked one day for SP at the
North Spring Street Freight Station-LA, in 1946..quit and spent
the next 39 years with AT&SF...Retired in August, 1985...

Personally, I really liked that paint scheme. It appears there are no numbers in the number boards on lead SD45?

They're there, just hard to see. White numbers on a red field weren't always the most visible on kodachromes.
