Hello All

I am turning to the history buffs out there to lend me a hand. I am looking for any info any one has on the change from steam to diesel and how this related to engineer assignments, specifically a mediation board award in favor of the railroads to eliminate locomotive engineers from multiple unit diesel consist through the use of jumper cables. I remember reading about this in trains magazine years ago but I am unable to find it now. If anyone has any info or can remember what issue of trains magazine this was in that would be great.
