UP geeps I miss part II
Author: FT

Following up on my post of last week. Six more views from across the west.

#146 is serviced at Pocatello, ID 1/73 It was about 10 degrees an I was back in the van fast.

#173 at one of my favorite spots in Utah, Bear River Canyon, or "wheelon" siding just around the next bend.

#174 Salt Lake City, UT 2/74 This is a transfer from the D&RGW yard, and I never found out where the Amtrak E was coming from??

#189 on the Tooele Local, heading back to SLC. Lakepoint is just ahead 1/78

#192 under Milwaukee wire. I think it is Auburn, WA by G J Bolinsky 2/66

#272 I shot it, but not sure if it is Idaho Falls, ID, I didn't note the location 6/72

Great photos Keith. I always enjoyed running up through the Bear River Canyon with our steam too.

The Idaho Falls picture looks to be in Aberdeen, ID based on the sign for Aberdeen coal on the bldg. I currently live in Idaho Falls and that area does not look familiar.

I agree with Hawkeye, it's not Idaho Falls but likely Aberdeen on the branch.

Great photos, but the one with 272 looks too built up to be Aberdeen, Idaho.

I suspect the photo with the Amtrak E unit was probably taken somewhat later than June 1971. Amtrak didn't begin acquiring and renumbering power until late 1971. The unit is former UP E9 946A.

davidP,

The correct date for the geep with E was 2/74. Thanks for noting that I carried over the date from another shot.

Keith - A sure sign of getting older is what we used to take begrudgingly for granted, a very lowly and dirt common GP9, is now looked back at with such fondness! Those pesky GP9s used to be everywhere, so much so that I had a tendency to ignore them, and now, you give us these slides that are just pure gold. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for you not ignoring those "pesky" GP9s!
