Nostalgia & History > Back When They Were Separate.Date: 11/21/12 16:24 Back When They Were Separate. Author: qman In the days of two, separate roads, 5 unit coal loads and eastward (southward) traffic on the ol' C&S.
We just about got the 16 mile hill from Trinchere to Branson, CO. behind us as we approach the CO./NM. state line at Branson, CO. qman Date: 11/21/12 16:37 Re: Back When They Were Separate. Author: eljay great pic, qman. if you don't mind my asking, what was your home terminal before the merger? did you work north and south of trinidad? if you did, was the trainhandling more challenging on one territory vs. the other?
i love from-the-cab stories and recollections! thank you, eljay, ft. collins Date: 11/21/12 17:00 Re: Back When They Were Separate. Author: qman Trinidad was my one-and-only Treminal in CO. Train handling was MUCH more demanding on the segment of the RR between Trinidad and Des Moines, NM. Once by Des Moines it was all a matter of holding the speed DOWN. The Tr. to Pueblo pool was, to me anyway, boring. Also, thanks !!

hard left, got steeper, threw in a couple more curves and then got serious at those stiff "S" curves East of Trinchera. I still chuckle at the train backing down the hill from Alps when the Grinder derailed with the SD-40 leading (cab east end) looking backward around the hood and over the GE "B" unit which was now on the point.
