UP 9763 leading the Napa Pipe Train
Author: photobob

Hey, I've got to post a little yellow now and then here's one in the pre-wings era. I know it was a new unit but I don't know what it was. I took this in the late 1990's in my Pentax 67 days near Black Butte with a cloud covered Mt Eddy in the background.

#9763 is a C44-9W, that was originally C&NW #8659. It looks like it had recently been repainted into UP colors

Strack's site gives a "date to UP number" of January 14, 1998. UP hadn't started patch-renumbering power yet, so that's probably when the unit was painted.
