It looks like they have their own cars - sleepers and a coach. Was the entire trip done on regularly scheduled trains or were there special movements involved? (I don't have 1960 schedules with me to check). To go around Spokane on the Milwaukee would have required a special train.

Sleepers were not privately owned cars, but from the railroads/Pullman pool.l |
