Lately there has been some talk about the SD&AE. Here is a short clip taken in 1947 on a fan trip out of San Diego. ( 8MM taken by my late Brother-in-Law, W.R."Bob" Wagner.)

Wonderful video, thanks for posting. I am assuming both engines shown before
the actual trip were the engines used on the run.

It's stuff like this that always makes me wish we'd have had modern video/photo
technology "back in the day." I can't tell you the number of stills I'll never
show again for being too dark or other flaws.

Again, thanks so much for posting this.

Where is the CZRY currently closed at? Who is the current operator for the Mexican side, and what are they using for power?

The CZRY, as it is, is embargoed from Campo, MP66.77 to
Plaster City, MP129.6.
Currently the only traffic on the desert line is the PSRM
at Campo, operating from Campo, MP65.8 west to Division, MP60!

Tunnel 3, in Mexico is still closed, arson fire Christmas 2009!

The current operator in Mexico is a Mexican corporation, I have
no knowledge of who is actually involved!!

I believe they are using 2 ex Santa Fe geeps that are owned by/leased
from Larry's Electric, LTEX!!

The silent comedy film "Chasing Choo Choos" (1927) has a lot of footage along that line. This segment is from a feature film titled "Play Safe." Previews of the feature film were not good. So they cut it down to a short subject. The film runs about 20 minutes and I guess that over half of it is rail related. It is a very funny film in what is known as the 'Thrill Comedy' genre.

Here are a couple of publicity stills from that film that I found at the San Diego RR Museum web site.

The first shows Monty shaking hands with somebody. Monty is the short fellow with the straw hat.

In this second photo, we see what appears to be the crews from both the railroad and the film company and probably some of their friends. In the front row, kneeling, appear to be members of the dining car staff.

PS: Monty was also a comedy director and the husband of British singer Gracie Fields.
