Where the heck was I?
Author: photobob

I took this shot of light power lead by 7019 back in 1963 and I believe I was somewhere on the Saugus Line. It sure had some cool line side structures..

Don't know where you are there Bob, but I sure like the bunk car and outside braced boxcar.

Ravenna would be my first guess.

That is my guess too.

My SWAG would be Saugus with Thacher Glass in the hazy background. I think looking compass south.

I'm inclined to think this is Vincent rather than Ravenna, Mister Hunn. Just doesn't look like Ravenna. But you ARE smarter than me...

If it is Vincent then "photobob" is looking west (railroad east).

My SP San Joaquin and LA Division ETT #8 (6/11/72) shows double track at Vincent, as well as yard limits. Also shows yard limits were in effect from Palmdale to Vincent, back when Harold was still a siding at MP 416 (between Palmdale and Vincent). Of course the siding at Harold is long gone...too short to be of much use.

I'm send you a PM...

I think it might be Humphreys. The canyon is not this wide ad Ravenna or Vincent and there used to be a lot of structures at Humphreys, including a white fence like that.

Yeah, definitely Humphreys. There has been a lot of grading in the area but here is a ground level view from approximately the same angle on Google Earth.

Looks like Vincent to me, looking RR E/B toward LA.

Surveying the suggestions using 1959 aerial photos on historicaerials.com:

Ravenna: the track curves too much, and there is no row of speeder sheds.

Vincent: only has buildings on one side of the tracks, no row of speeder sheds.

Saugus: There is a row of speeder sheds on the geographic east side of the tracks geographic south of the depot, but the buildings that would be in the background on the opposite side of the tracks looking geographic north have rooflines perpendicular to the tracks rather than parallel.

Humphreys: buildings don't line up, no row of speeder sheds.

That is exactly what I see here also, John. The buildings may be gone, but the mountains and the track to the left of the power all fit todays look.

Thanks John. I would have never guessed Tehachapi. I'm not old enough to remember all the old buildings. I was also fooled by Jim G.'s photos showing a train at Monolith, when I thought it was Tehachapi. Makes sense now...

Alright guys it sounds like Tehachapi is the location. A half century since I took the photo tends to cloud whats left of my brain cells.

It would totally disagree never having seen that much building at Tehachapi,
except that the track is straight and appears to drop off the end of the world
which would most likely be Tehachapi. As to Vincent, when was there ever that
many buildings at Vincent? Oh, the nerve. Great shot though.

The track next to the #1 main, the track the power is on, is still there today.
