mFile from yesterday: Hamm's car or not?
Author: valmont

Yesterday I posted n mFile MILW pic and someone asked what this car was, and someone else thought it was a Hamm's Beer car. I zoomed it about as far as I though practical before losing more pixels in the first pic. The second one is a Hamm's car I shot in Denver on May 31, 1971. They are different types of cars .... the one in the MILW shot from yesterday appears to be a hopper ... and while the general color scheme is similar, the billboard lettering is not. That's not to say that Hamm's didn't have other schemes, but I figured I post this for comparison.

So if not Hamm's then who?

The hopper is a Peavey company car. Later versions are solid blue with red Peavey lettering. I remember these blue and white with the diamond-shaped placard being from the 1960s and 1970s.

James Kinkaid posted a scan of TLDX 6203 to the Modern Freight Car List on Yahoo! Groups. It is painted in the early Peavey scheme that Tony notes above.

And for cheap beer it was pretty good. $1.00 a six pack when I was in college.
