Nostalgia & History > RR of my Grand-Father-in-Law - Wisconsin 1940's ElandDate: 12/13/12 08:26 RR of my Grand-Father-in-Law - Wisconsin 1940's Eland Author: Kimball My wife's grandfather was a locomotive engineer for a RR that had a major yard and engine facility in Eland. What RR would this likely have been? His carreer spanned steam and diesel.
She remembers riding in a switch engine with him around 1964. She thought it was steam, but I am guessing diesel, as the family has photo of him climbing off a 4 uinit GP-7 or GP-9 consist of in March 1956. His name was Otto Schellin - his nickname was "The Duck" for his ability to get through drifts and re-rail trains where others had failed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Corrected city to Eland.
