NW-1's were Re powered in the Silvis Shops in 1956-57 I believe with Alco 12-244 engines from re powered FA's. I believe most were kept in the Silvis area close to the shops for most of their lives. The additional height was due to the height of the 244 engine.I never was around them, but from talking to people who were, tell me the derated 244 eng sounded more like a Baldwin
