Fortunately, no one was injured in this U.P. mishap
Author: JoCoLB

A Union Pacific locomotive crashed into the rear of a parked train, shoving a piggyback truck trailer into a couple of container units on another rail car ahead. The scene was in the U.P. switch yard in Herington, KS, on March 23, 1998. Fortunately, no one was injured. No real details were released for public consumption, although a U.P. spokesman said a "brake defect" was blamed. This telephoto shot is the only picture I got of the scene.

Glad nobody was hurt. The NS "lead sled" TOFC car appears to have justified its nickname, and held up pretty well.

Even the REAZ trailer held it's shape pretty good considering it just got crunched by a Geep!

The UP has no respect for the old SP units!

Actually, if you think about an SP or SSW geeps with inoperative dynamic brakes followed by an MP unit with no dynamic brakes, could have contributed!

You had to love the SP / SSW units. They added such a variety to SP trains. They came in white lettering, Red lettering (when the white wore off and exposed the red primer) or no lettering.

Looks like the engine is almost loaded onto the flatcar to haul it away. upkpfan
