Trestle Tuesday On The Cowboy Line
Author: CNW8531

This old wooden trestle is located about eight miles or so west of Douglas, Wyoming, near the old Fort Fetterman site on the way to Casper. The C&NW would run to Casper and back out of Chadron on Tuesdays and Fridays, and if I wasn't working or getting my rest between trips, I would try and set up for a shot of this bi-weekly run. This train wasn't hard to chase by no means, it was just hard for me to fit it in between my busy work/rest cycle that summer. In my six months of working the coal line that year, I think I was only able to catch this train about four times total. Here's half of those westbound CHCAA runs from August of 1988. The first shot (just the units) was taken on 8-23-88, and the next (whole train view) exactly one week later on the 30th.

Great photos!

In the CNW world, you were near the edge of the earth, at least before the coal line expansion.

Four locomotives, seven cars, one caboose; CNW wasn't going to risk that train being underpowered.

CNW 8531, thanks again really enjoy your cowboy line photos! Also is that 4th unit an ex-M&STL unit?

The consist are as follows: 1st consist 4531-4512-4117-4514 (ex CNW #1773, exM&StL #701, exCRI&P #4442, exQNS&L #177)
2nd consist 4506-4303-4148-4126 (ex M&StL #713, exM&StL #602, ex CRI&P #4473, exCRI&P #4451)

Some of the Rock Island engines carried multiple numbers over they're careers, I'm just listing the last number they carried before being bought by the C&NW.
Thank you for your interest and am glad your enjoying my post on the Cowboy line.

I kinda figured the old M&STL units were easy to spot thanks to the dynamic brake blister.
