Nostalgia & History > Re-arrange the Numbers, Change the DirectionDate: 08/29/13 16:48 Re-arrange the Numbers, Change the Direction Author: RDG630 Standing at the same spot 40 years ago in Pottstown, Pa as I did last Saturday for NS 1067 on train 65W I photographed RDG 7601 leading an eastbound train on the Reading main. The paint diagram for the RDG 7600's was used to create NS 1067's scheme. Big EMD's, different eras. Just read the original number backwards.

While I was not as attentive an observer as I should have been in the early '70's, I recall the "Main Line" (Reading to Philadelphia) trains seemed to have a 6-axle with other 4-axle units.

FDF Date: 08/30/13 09:34 Re: Re-arrange the Numbers, Change the Direction Author: RDG630 The 5500 horsepower rating (one six axle and one four axle combination) was perfect for most trains on the main line between Philadelphia, Allentown and Harrisburg so that lash-up was very common.
