Nice photo. The GE's were the real cream of the crop in the Illinois Division when we got them. The second unit has the frog eye lights too. A lot of times we had GE's out of Chicago but we had a GP-7 or F-7 on the point for cab signals.

What was the purpose of the "frog eye lights" on the Rock Island units? A kind of elevated ditch light?

They were alternating flashing lights. Quite effective when they worked.
Problem was they couldn't keep the bulbs from burning out.
