Nostalgia & History > BN in Iowa 1991Date: 02/01/15 10:54 BN in Iowa 1991 Author: MILW86A Back in the early 1990's I used to go down to the BN Ottumwa Sub a lot. While folks like Nick Tharalson and CNW8531 were shooting TOFC on the La Crosse main, I went to get coal trains. :}
1. First train is Train 492. This and counterpart 491 were drag freights that ran between Galesburg and Gibson Yard in Omaha. It would work Burlington, Ottumwa, Maxon(Albia), and Creston. Here is 492 on June 10 of 1991 approaching South St in Burlington, Iowa. 2. A DD017 empty is crossing the SOO Line at Ottumwa IA on July 7, 1991. 3. A YY016 with old school coal power heads east at Maxon(Albia) Iowa on July 7, 1991. Thank you for looking. more action there. We did occasionally get down to the Q's west end, but I personally preferred the Santa Fe for more variety. Good stuff Dave, thanks for posting. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 02/01/15 14:18 Re: BN in Iowa 1991 Author: MILW86A Youre welcome Nick. You used to get after me for going down there. If I got 10 moves or more that was a good day back then.
