After my trip to the BC&G I wandered over to Mullens West Virginia to shoot the Virginian, I was making headway thru the older power and was headed for the train MASTERs when I got run off.... Here are two shots of two Juice Jacks that were held in reserve and a X C&O 0-8-0 # 251...The date is Sept 1957...

Also at Mullens were XC&O 2-8-4 now Virginian 507 on the wiskers...It looks like there was no roundhouse, or maybe it has been torn down?? Along side 507 was 4-6-2 212 and a group shot of 212,507 and the tender of 0-8-0 241..

Wow, awesome stuff! Those Berkshires were built new for VGN by Lima, they weren't ex-C&O. C&O design, though, like the VGN's 2-6-6-6's, which were also built new for VGN. The current MR mag calls the VGN 2-6-6-6's "Blue Ridge" types, as opposed to the Allegheny on C&O. I think the big VGN 0-8-0's were also built new; N&W had secondhand C&O 0-8-0's.

Among the stored steam power at Mullen were two 900 class at what looks like two XC&O 2-6-6-6 ??..They were boxed in so there wasn't room for a good mug shot....and XC&O 0-8-0 249 who has already had her rod cut to be hauled off and 2-8-2 468....There was a large group of train masters working the yard and two sets next to the Juice Jacks and I was heading that way next when I was told to leave...

Virginian Railway's eight 900-class 2-6-6-6 locomotives #900-907 were built new by Lima in 1945. The 2-6-6-6s were called "Allegheny" on the C&O; meanwhile Virginian Railway called theirs "Blue Ridge". More info found here

Thanks to Rob Albrae, we have know what happened to the 2-6-6-6's, it would be nice to see a action shot of Virginian 2-6-6-6 in action, the C&O 2-6-6-6's were well documented, but I don't remember seeing any action shots of the Virginian "Blue ridges" any where, maybe one of the guys will come up with one.....
