On the Malahat Dayliner it was a catering truck in Parksville. Now, if you were REALLY tough in the big city, you would have ridden the CN mixed train that ran from Halifax to Yarmouth! Conductor would announce a 10 to 15 min stop there and time to get a coffee and sandwich. In 1977, I was on a long, trans Canada train trip that started in Vancouver, hit both Sydney and Halifax before turning back west. Although I saw the DAR and even went out to Kentville to look around, I never took the time, and I had the time to spend, to ride the DAR to Yarmouth. Yeah, one of my life's great railfan/train riding regrets.
Great pair of photos! Lee Hower - Sacramento Date: 01/24/17 16:24 Re: 40yrs ago today on the Dominion Atlantic Author: ghCBNS Thanks Lee!
I was in Kentville last week. The old DAR track is still in place from just east of there to the Windsor Jct but hasn't seen a train in several years. West of Kentville......a nice cross country ski trail! And the dead track is still there, eh? I need to scan a bunch of my 1977 trip back there.
