Cheyenne Switchers
Author: Bob3985

Here is a photo I took over on the Cheyenne run around track of a couple of the switchers when I was assigned in the yard. An NW-2 was already out in the yard banging away at this time.

What's the story with the lower headlights and number boards on the geep?

On the UP the GP-7's were long hood forward but I do not know why unless it was supposed to provide better close up illumination.
In fact it was 117 that I blew up switching out at an industrial plant west of Cheyenne but that is a longer story and I am protecting the inncent Hahahaha.

Back in 1976 the 117's sibling unit 116 was one of the very first engines I ever shot with my trusty X-15 Instamatic. Thanks for resurrecting some fond memories...

It's always nice to see pictures of UP's early diesels.

Easier access to change train numbers in number boards; latches for access doors can be seen just below the boards. At the time of their delivery UP still required locomotives to display train numbers; by the time of this photo that was over.
