Southern 4501 and F units - near New Orleans -- Nov 85
Author: gcm

4501 heads north along the levee by Lake Pontchartrain on a New Orleans-Hattiesburg excursion.
A yearly ritual in November- trips were run on Saturday and Sunday. I would ride one day and chase the other.
Great Southern RR trips.

Wow. I was stationed Keesler AFB at Biloxi MS in Nov 85.  I'd like to have gotten over there to catch that.

Believe the first car may have been owned by the New Orleans Chapter, NRHS.   Brook series car. Not sure where it is now.
They sponsored these trips.
Great memories, Gary.

In those years it was typical for the sponsoring NRHS chapter to supplement the standard excursion consist with one or two of its own cars.

NS didn't have a lot of confidence in 4501 at that time, thus the two FP7s. That territory is quite flat.

Great photo.  I like the dark grey graphite smokebox much better than the bright silver that was on the 4501 during its earlier excursion career.

Thanks for posting.
