On a trip to Chicago in 1991 to photograph the BN E-units a friend and I also checked out among other things LTV-Erie Mining and the DM&IR.

1)  From 6-4-91 a westbound empty ore train with 4211/4223/4216/4219/7213 passes Sarto, MN headed back for another load.  I learned this past weekend that this was at one time Northern Pacific Railway property and leased to the Erie Mining for operation.  Not sure if BN sold it to Erie Mining or if was retained by BN.  No one seems to know.

2)  C424 4230 on the Dunka Branch with loads to be crushed and rolled into pellets 6-5-91.  I have no clue of where I photographed this except it is at a grade crossing..  Can anyone help?.

3)  For fans of power lines and trains, DM&IR 189 Southbound at North Virginia, MN 6-5-91 with units 189/158/303.

Erie Mining 4211 is still in service on the North Shore Scenic Railroad.
