Santa Fe 9 engine freight at Rosenberg - Nov 79
Author: gcm

I was at Rosenberg,Tx (about 35 miles west of Houston) waiting for the Lone Star when this freight came roaring by.
With a loco-control B unit and a SD26, I'm guessing this was the empty northbound sulphur train from Galveston.
This was at Tower 17 (just out of sight to the left) with train orders in the distance for the soon to arrive Lone Star.
The orders are on the connecting track from the SP to the Santa Fe.

I'm thinking at least one of the "B" units was a slug.  However, you may well be correct they are
RCC cars.  Why they needed two escapes me.

Maybe the helpers have been moved to the head end since it's empty, one radio car for each set of power.

I can see the antenna ground plane on the roof of both B-units, so they are both RCE cars.  It might be a balancing move, or shuttling power somewhere for servicing, as that doesn't really look like a sulfur tank behind the SD26.  Santa Fe RCE cars were receivers only, so there wouldn't be a car assigned to both the leaders and receivers in an unmanned helper setup.

These are great Gary, and I know I say that I lot. But a contrast to Marty's transcon AT&SF material from the equally awesome Roger Puta collection (which I like a lot too)
Most of the GC&SF was always to me quite different in appearance and operation to the rest of the system. More like the MP's IGN lines or even the MKT. This power consist is CLASSIC and
and not what a lot of us would expect from Santa Fe in the late seventies.
Most appreciated
Pete

Thanks, Evan. Didn't notice the ground planes on first glance.
