CNW Sunday grain trains, grab anything for power!
Author: slacks

In the mid-1980,s CNW was known for running weekend grain extras using whatever power was handy. Most locals were idle on the weekends so there were more geeps sitting at the terminals. This Sunday Boone Ia assembled this gp-sd-gp consist to take eb grain to Clinton,Ia. The only thing is to have an ATC equipped leader for the point unit. This train is topping the ruling grade at Mt Vernon Ia at about 10 mph. There are still grain trains on Sundays here, but don,t sound like this.

Isn't slacks ON the old 30 bridge? That's the current
county road structure I believe.

Slacks is on the old one correct. The other two are on the 2nd bridge.
Boy those places were great to shoot from. Not anymore with all the foilage around(like Hwy 13)

Yes, I,m standing on the old Lincoln Highway bridge that is closed to traffic and still a good place to watch trains. I don,t remember who is standing on the new old Hgw 30 bridge, but it is a little harder to photograph from due to traffic and foliage.
