Nostalgia & History > MoPac diesel shop was being built about 70 years agoDate: 04/20/17 08:43 MoPac diesel shop was being built about 70 years ago Author: JoCoLB A Missouri Pacific Railroad diesel repair shop building was under construction in Osawatomie, Kan., when this picture was taken in about 1947 or '48. Note that tracks had not yet been laid in the building or aligned straight towards the building. This diesel repair facility, which employed several hundred mechanics, electricians and other craftsmen, was in operation from 1948 to 1958.

At the lower left, can be seen the turntable for a decades-old steam locomotive roundhouse. It looks like one of the former Colorado Eagle passenger engines is peeking out a west door of the shop.

Offices faced Sixth Street (U.S. 169 highway) Looks like GP-7 road switchers are parked on the north side of the shop.
