Not What I Was Hoping to See 1987
Author: krm152

On Tuesday, April 28, 1987 I was railfanning through nearby New Albany IN hoping to see a SOO Line freight come trundling south along 15th Street. When the crossing lights lit up and the bells rang, I was definitely excited. The bad news was it was not the SOO. The goods news was that it was not a false alarm; it was a train, a southbound CSX freight led by a former SCL unit.

That's the former Monon line used by Amtrak's Floridian until 1979. I remember riding in Engineer's seat in the Dome car on that stretch numerous times.

I can relate to those situations. Now anything on that street running would be considered a good day.
