Nostalgia & History > interesting powerDate: 04/29/17 11:36 interesting power Author: FT Three I pulled to scan to show some of the interesting power lash-ups out there in the '70's
First is a Clinchfield coal train my brother and I chased on our way from Utah to a fan meeting in Buffalo.in'76. We were never ones to take the shortest way. How about GP-A-GP-A-GP-A. All the geeps in black and all the F's in old colors. by me. Next a set I would liked to of chased. CR 6901 - 3861 - 6903 / PC black- E-L - CR blue by Dan Dover Sharonville, OH 7-3-77 SD9 /F7B/ SD9 last, hump power to seek out. Three Train Masters. Ex Wabash, at Bellevue, OH 5/70 No photographer id on slide. I seem to recall some or all were repowered by Wabash, but they still look like T-M's. That CR 6901 has an unusual hump on the running board under the radiators . . . wonder what that was? It's ex-PRR and probably had cab signals, but that running board bump is much bigger than the usual PRR-style cab signal box. Edit: well darn, I found a shot of 6904 and 6906 with an open-sided running board hump, and it sure looks like cab signal equipment: http://www.railarchive.net/vintagediesel/images/pc6904-6906_dvl.jpg Ken McCorry, what say you? Late 60's and the 70's were the "good old Days" -\ nowhere near steam, of course. Granted, the industry was going thru some serious trauma, but the resulting variety was somethin' else. Date: 04/29/17 14:38 Re: interesting power Author: kgmontreal Gasp.

Great catches. Thanks for sharing these. Bob Date: 04/29/17 15:57 Re: interesting power Author: krm152 KEITH:
Your Clinchfield photo is absolutely outstanding. A solid first generation six unit consist. Super excellent! Amazingly, in 1976, Clinchfield still rostered six F Units in the gray scheme. They were #801, #805, #809, #812, #816, and #819. Three units, #801, #812, and #819, were equipped with a Hancock air chime. #812 had yellow numberboards with black numbers. Must admit that I am somewhat envious. I made several Clinchfield forays when I lived in Winston Salem, Jun 1972 - Dec 1976. Although I did get some interesting things, I never got a solid first generation consist on a freight. Thanks for sharing this photo with us all.
