Uncle Oliver (#12): SP Santa Barbara for Depot Friday!
Author: santafe199

Here’s a remarkable color slide from sunny Southern California. The color has held up nicely considering it was taken 61 years ago. I don’t know any circumstances other than it was taken by Oliver Gibson who was a life-long friend & fellow railfan photographer, but no blood relation to both Bill & Art Gibson (WAG Sr & WAG Jr). Never-the-less, Art thinks of Oliver as an “Uncle” he never had…

Thanks for looking back!

This photo shows how the East end of the depot was enclosed to provide office space, I think for rate clerks. Today this area has been restored to an open patio as the the depot was originally constructed. I would post a current photo, but I left SB this morning.

See the tall light poll on the far left edge of the photo?  The neon sign on it read: TAXI.  It somehow survived into the 70's when I was driving for Yellow Cab-
I coveted that sign!
