CN 6772, a Montreal Locomotive Works FPA4 in 1979
Author: MartyBernard

Roger Puta shot these in the CN Spadina Yard in Toronto in September 1979.

1. Face.

2. Nose.

3. Builders Plate.

4. A tank of some sort with the word ALCO on it.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Good looking locomotive in my favorite "modern" colour scheme.
Nice!

Actually is a cover access into the crankcase / engine guts.

Notice the hammered edges of the 'knob' holding the valve cover on.  A machinist for NYC/PC/CR at Sharon Yard (Cincinnati OH) told me that the first thing they did before opening the hood doors on an ALCO was to go to the first door behind the engine block, open it and look down along the engine.  He said too many times a hapless guy would open the door and get clonked on the head or foot with one of those valve covers because the knobs had a habit of unscrewing themselves.

A wise employee would look down the block to see if any of the covers were dislodged and waiting to fall on the unwary.
