2 Rio Grande GP30's S. Platte trestle
Author: highgreengraphics

On February 19, 1988, two jaunty D&RGW GP30's are regulars on the Belt Job out of North Yard in Denver, CO, and here they are on the Belt Line, rumbling over the South Platte River old wood trestle in north Denver where the Rock Island once tread. This trestle has long been replaced with a steel and concrete structure. === === = === JLH

For wahtever reason, without really looking at the 2 units in the shot, I first thought that "Speed Lettered" Unit was 3002. And indeed it is. Thanks for posting. Ben

Four RG GP30's had the large letters: 3001, 3002, 3014, and 3027. BSB

That's right. IIRC, the only GP35 so painted was 3048. Of the SD45's (all delivered in small lettering) half were also repainted in large herald: 5315, 5322, 5326, 5327, 5328, 5329, 5331, 5333, 5334, 5336, 5337, 5338 and 5340.

Cheers, Jim Fitch
