Operation Life Saver. Also called Trooper on a Train. Basically a sting operation at road crossings to catch people going around gates and crossing after the crossing lights start flashing. I've run many of these in the L.A. basin area. They give out quite a number of tickets and also have arrested several people for various reasons. To be fair, they do just hand out warnings a lot of the time. -BMT Date: 05/23/17 16:07 Re: Noses Author: callum_out Geez jack, "OLS", onion-lettuce-spinach, the new rage in Cali veggie sandwiches!!

Date: 05/23/17 16:42 Re: Noses Author: wingomann Do a search on "Railfair San Francisco 1987" for more info.
Date: 05/23/17 22:25 Re: Noses Author: wpamtk This "Railfair" was on San Francisco Belt RR tracks north of the Ferry Building in April 1987. Other equipment there included a Santa Fe FP45, Virginia & Truckee 2-4-0 #21 (from CSRM), Sacramento Northern streetcar 62 (from Rio Vista Jct.), and probably a few other pieces that don't come to mind just now. Also, Market Street Ry. streetcar 578 ran up and down the Belt tracks towing a generator (this was before the Muni's F-line was built here).
On April 21, an Operation Lifesaver train was run from San Francisco to Sacramento via San Jose and Oakland. Leaving SF, the train had a Caltrain F40PH leading the SP E-unit, Santa Fe FP45, and UP E-unit, and there was an Amtrak F40PH on the rear of the train. At San Jose, the Caltrain unit came off and the other power ran around to the other end so it could head up the East Bay with SP 6051 in the lead. (There's two photos of this move in Morning Sun's "SP Trackside in Northern California, 1974-1996.") When the train reached Sacramento, the SP 6051 came off and an SDP45 was added for the rest of the trip. Date: 05/24/17 22:17 Re: Noses Author: GoldenState wpamtk Wrote:
