WAG Wednesday: Soo Line at Bemidji, MN
Author: santafe199

In August of 1957 Bill Gibson was in Minnesota visiting relatives. Art tells me it was Bill’s sister & brother-in-law, therefore his aunt & uncle he was visiting up in the north country. Being a good railfan Bill of course had his camera along and managed to shoot several interesting slides. So this week I’m posting something a little off the normal Midwestern path. Here is Bill shooting a SOO LINE passenger train shortly before it was discontinued. Enjoy…

Thanks for looking back!

Nice photo of a small town local - thanks! The town is Bemidji, not Bernidji...easy to see how someone's handwriting could be misread though.. Trains 64 and 65 between Duluth and Thief River Falls look to have been discontinued sometime in 1959.

Thank-you! I will make the corrections needed. And I suspect you're right about the handwriting... :^/

Love the RS1 and combine, and the beautiful photo. Can anybody tell me more about that signal? Can't remember seeing one like that before. Was it a train-orders signal?

There are many photos at Bemidji. I just can't get them out now. Dad started taking photos in 1937. wag216

You're right. Even tough Mark was an avid Milwaukee fan this shot Bill took came from very close to his home turf. I really miss Mark. And I often wonder how much fun he would have had with TO.com. DAMN cancer!!!

Sigh........
