C&O 7426 had a failing turbo which contributed to the smoke display. Cranberry Grade was almost 12 miles of 2 to 3 percent. The coal drags averaged @80 cars in those days. The drags usually made @8 to 12 mph., and you could follow them on the service road from McMillan to Terra Alta. Those were the days!

With those 4 4 axles up front and probably 4 SD35's shoving it was 8 miles per hour to Terra Alta.Those 4 4 axles sure sounded better than 2 AC 4400's.
