Nostalgia & History > There's a railroad yard in my front yardDate: 07/20/17 10:59 There's a railroad yard in my front yard Author: march_hare My vote for "the most unindustrial RR yard I've ever seen" goes to the former Green Bay and Western facility (Norwood, I think it was called) in Green Bay WI. A single family home neighborhood totally surrounded the west end of the yard. Every afternoon when the daily run to Winona was being assembled, the crew would have to either double or triple out of the yard, because the trains were longer than the yard tracks.
If I'd been a kid in that neighborhood, I would have been all over this place. Here, on what's about to become a stormy afternoon in 1992, the afternoon shuffle is underway. It's a scene a model railroader could love, but then the entire GBW qualified for that. Date: 07/20/17 11:28 Re: There's a railroad yard in my front yard Author: bluesboyst Is the yard still there?

They aired up each cut on the yard tracks to make putting the train together a bit faster, but still doubled and tripled and more to get #1 made up and underway. I'd have been there after school every day!

without standing on their property. When was the yard removed? Thanks for both photos above. Date: 07/20/17 17:29 Re: There's a railroad yard in my front yard Author: terrybaker GPutz Wrote:

This is one scene I never want to view in person... I'll go with some great memories from an early 80's Green Bay visit that included a personal roundhouse tour.
