Does anybody have any information on an SP, straight cupola, wood caboose at Willamette Heritage Center (Mission Mill) in Salem.

It was delivered yesterday. (Fri)

"...it is one of two cabooses on private property south of Eugene..." That's what was being said by onlookers.

Is the collection on 'private property' being distributed to other museums as well?

Good to keep track of these things, looks like some preservation work needs to be done before winter.

According to the article in the Salem Statesman-Journal there is already a group of people ready to do this. They are talking about replacing most of the outer wood with material especially milled for the purpose.

Any idea of the SP number?

At one time there were hundreds available -- how many do you want.
I paid PE $250 for the 570, now in barn 4 at Perris.

According to the newspaper it is SP Caboose #507.

I think that's what I was trying to find out. I thought I knew the Eugene "area" fairly well.

I didn't see a board on the outside that didn't need replacing. The newspaper said that the outside wood
would have to be replaced. The paper said that the interior was as it was when last used.

I hope that the state (ODOT) has nothing to do with this. Over four years ago they were to rebuild the
freight shed next to the Salem AMTRAK station and have Greyhound move into it. They can't get it
done. It is just sitting now waiting for the sidewalks to be poured and street paved. They are
out of money. A bill is supposed to be sitting on the gov's desk waiting to be signed. I personally
don't believe they will get it done this year. It needs a sign: YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK COMPLETION 2013

Pretty sure ODOT is not involved. I hope so too. I am a Californian who moved to Salem 10 years ago. I am 77 years old, and in my life I have never seen a population of people so unwilling to tax themselves to pay for public services.
