2003: There was Steam at Steamtown
Author: bandob

Perhaps this should have gone on the steam board, but since it is part of my "photos in order" project, I'll put it here.

In November and December 2003, Steamtown was running a steam-powered Holiday Special. Only two cars when I saw it just after Thanksgiving.

2317 from the side, and views of the Roundhouse/turntable area.

Looking over the yard, some nice freight cars there.

Two other steam locomotives not operable: NKP 759 and an interesting CNR 4-6-0T.

Look at the picture again, that CN loco is a 4-6-4T.

You are right, I wasn't sure if the wheels under the tank "counted!" LOL.

They're all under the same frame. It's not like this engine has a 20 foot long tender.

CNR class X-10-a 4-6-4T. CN had 6, 45-50 for Montreal suburban service. Neat little mill

Ran from Montreal Bonaventure station to Dorval on the original Grand Trunk alignment which was south of the present CN route.

David P Morgan (of Trains magazine) wrote the text of a great photo essay about watching the commuter operation at Dorval in the 1950's.
CN used wooden coaches of great vintage on this run.
