Author: MartyBernard

1. and 2. The leaders were ATSF 5047, 5007, and 7422 (SD40u, SD40u, and B40-8) and the followers were ATSF 5069 and 5375 (SD40-2 and SD45u) on October 19, 1992.

3. ATSF 4013, 125, and 541 (GP60, GP60M, and B40-8W) on March 6, 1994. I can't read the number on the 4th unit.

4. and 5. ATSF 4031, 117, 130, plus 2 B-units (GP60, GP60M, GP60M, plus 2 GP60Bs) on October 19, 1992.

Really nice--everything from 45 flares to B units and wonderful paint.
Where is the location of the last photo?

Just above Sullivan's Curve.

Interesting light engine move. Quite surprising upon first viewing the picture of the GP60B on one end in Cajon Pass with no cars coupled.

Right. Just above Sullivan's Curve. You can just see the end of the curve in the previous photo.

Are those scanned Kodachromes, Marty? So crisp and clear.

Kodachromes? Yes. I'll take that as a compliment.

Back in those days it was not uncommon to see several cab hop/light engine movements out of LA on Sunday and Monday.

Yes, that was the weekly drill. By the weekend you usually had trains holding for power at Barstow. Starting Saturday as the outbound traffic dropped off and heavy late week traffic was arriving from the East, you would double up power on trains originating. If you could get an engine lite or two out on Sunday, it really helped (sometimes the crew dispatchers had trouble finding crews for the light moves on Sunday). Besides getting power to Barstow to run trains, you had yard and road-switcher power that needed servicing at Barstow over the weekend.

Doing a good job of digging power out of LA over the weekend helped a lot to make the next week go better.
