Nostalgia & History > Kennecott Copper Baldwin, Alco and EMD trio 1971Date: 09/19/17 13:30 Kennecott Copper Baldwin, Alco and EMD trio 1971 Author: valmont Contacted KCC before I headed west from Colorado and had a solo two part guided tour when I was there. Electrics were of course working but I also was able to get shots of these 3 diesels, 3 models, 3 builders. Pretty easy when they just stop what they're doing and wait until you get your shots. It was a fascinating tour of this sprawling operation with so much to see. Next time I was on the property was for the WGRF tour in September 1983.
1. KCC Baldwin DRS6-6-1500 #901 8/4/71 2. KCC Alco RS2 #902 8/5/71 3. KCC EMD SD24 #904 8/5/71 All my shots, I have the location as Magna, UT Date: 09/19/17 14:55 Re: Kennecott Copper Baldwin, Alco and EMD trio 1971 Author: Bob3985 When I was going to college out in Salt Lake many years ago they had a pair of those SD-24's on the trains from the pit to the concentrator. Electrics ruled the pit.

Looks like it still had an air-cooled turbo as well.

1 -- Kennecott 901, with its recently completed chop nose, operating in Magna yard. 2 -- Kennecott 901, receiving it chop nose. 3 -- Kennecott 902, with its chop nose, operating in Magna yard. Kennecott 903, their SD7, also received a chop nose at the same time. Kennecott 904, their SD24, was the last SD24 built, the only one built in 1963 (none were built in 1962). Supposedly Kennecott wanted a six-axle version of EMD's GP30. Dates and more information is on this web page. http://utahrails.net/bingham/kcc-utah-locos.php#bald-901 Don Strack Date: 09/24/17 06:38 Re: Kennecott Copper Baldwin, Alco and EMD trio 1971 Author: cozephyr Appreciate you posting these rare Kennecott Copper units, Don.
