Into the mid 1960's one could still ride a section sleeper on unnamed No. 6 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas and between Salt Lake City and Cheyenne.

I rode it in late summer 1964 from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and back to take my physical and be sworn in the Navy in LA. On way home I remember wandering around in Los Angeles Union Station killing time after dinner in Harvey House. It later it seemed every train on the three railroads had left town and No. 6 was going to be the the last. I was sitting on one of those hard wooden benches seemingly alone in the massive terminal. I was happy to finally board and get under the sheets in my roomette.

The November 1962 Official Guide lists the 6-6-4 American series Pullman as operating Los Angeles to Omaha. A café lounge operated from Las Vegas to Ogden, then another car operated Cheyenne to Omaha.
